Pilgrims departing Madinah for Umrah in Makkah must enter the state of Ihram at the designated Miqat. Here is what you need to know before your journey.
The Miqat for Madinah is Dhul Hulayfah — also called Abyar Ali or Masjid ash-Shajarah (Mosque of the Tree). It is located approximately 7–9 km from Madinah city centre, right on the road towards Makkah. It is the furthest Miqat from Makkah and the most common one used by Umrah pilgrims departing from Madinah.
At Dhul Hulayfah, pilgrims intending Umrah change into Ihram garments, make the intention (niyyah) for Umrah, and recite the Talbiyah. The mosque has separate facilities for men and women to change. Our driver will stop here on request and wait while you complete the process — no extra charge.
Allow 20–40 minutes at Dhul Hulayfah for the full group to change and make intention. If travelling with elderly passengers, factor in extra time. Inform us of the Miqat stop when booking so we schedule your departure time accordingly.
Many pilgrims prefer to change into Ihram at their Madinah hotel and then proceed directly past Dhul Hulayfah making niyyah inside the vehicle as they cross the Miqat boundary. This is valid according to most scholars. If this is your plan, no stop is required — simply let us know and your driver will inform you as you approach the Miqat point.
Let us know your Ihram plan when you book. Our drivers know the route well, will slow as you approach Dhul Hulayfah, and will stop if required — at no extra cost.

Planning a group Umrah? For Umrah committees and family groups of 8 or more, the HiAce or Coaster consistently offers the best per-person value. Both vehicles also have the luggage capacity for a full group's Ihram bags, suitcases, and personal items without needing a second vehicle.
The Madinah–Makkah route sees some of the highest seasonal demand of any transfer in Saudi Arabia. Know when to book early to secure standard rates.
Outside peak periods, standard fares apply with good vehicle availability. Shorter notice bookings are possible, though pre-booking is always recommended.
Demand peaks as pilgrims move between Madinah and Makkah throughout Ramadan — especially in the final 10 nights. Vehicles are in very short supply. Book 4–6 weeks in advance.
The highest-demand period. Post-Hajj movement from Madinah to Makkah and return is extremely high. All vehicles book out weeks in advance. No exceptions on pricing during this period.
Confirm your booking via WhatsApp before the peak season begins. Once confirmed, your fare is locked regardless of rising demand. Pilgrims from Pakistan, UK, and Malaysia regularly book their Madinah–Makkah transfers 4–8 weeks ahead during Ramadan season — this is the only reliable way to avoid seasonal surcharges.
Book Now & Lock In Your FareSeveral transport options exist for the Madinah–Makkah route. Here is an honest side-by-side so you can make the right choice for your group.

| Haramain High Speed Rail | ~SAR 100–200 per person (+ taxi each end) |
Madinah HHR station | ~2.5 hrs (train only) +30–60 min transfers |
Not available on train | Restricted (23kg) |
| Unregulated kerb-side taxi | SAR 300–500+ (negotiated, inflated in peak) |

| Shared group transport | SAR 80–150 per person | Fixed departure point | 5–7 hrs (waiting & multiple stops) |
Sometimes | Very limited |
The Haramain train consideration: The HHR is fast but the Madinah station is located outside the city centre, requiring a taxi transfer both ends. There is also no Miqat stop on the train — pilgrims must enter Ihram before boarding or at the station, which many scholars advise against without proper intention at the correct point. A private taxi allows a proper stop at Dhul Hulayfah, door-to-door service, and no luggage restrictions.
Select your vehicle and book via WhatsApp. Mention your Miqat preference and we'll plan the journey accordingly.

The Miqat is Dhul Hulayfah (Abyar Ali / Masjid ash-Shajarah), located approximately 7–9 km from Madinah city centre on the road to Makkah. It is the designated point where Umrah pilgrims entering from the Madinah direction must assume the state of Ihram. Our drivers will stop here on request at no extra charge.
Yes — Ramadan surcharges of 20 to 30 percent apply due to very high demand. The last 10 nights see the sharpest price increases. During Hajj season and Eid, surcharges can reach 40 to 50 percent. Pre-booking at standard rates before the season is the only way to lock in the prices listed on this page.
The Haramain High Speed Rail is fast (~2.5 hours) but requires a taxi transfer to and from each station, has strict luggage limits, and — importantly — does not offer a Miqat stop. Pilgrims must manage their Ihram separately. For families of 4+, a private taxi with hotel pickup, Miqat stop, and hotel drop often works out at a comparable or lower total cost when all factors are considered.
Many pilgrims choose to wear their Ihram garments at the hotel and make the formal niyyah (intention) inside the vehicle as they pass through Dhul Hulayfah — this is accepted by the majority of scholars. If this is your plan, no physical stop is needed. Simply inform our driver and they will indicate when you are crossing the Miqat boundary so you can recite the Talbiyah at the correct moment.
